How to Cut Layers Into Your Fine, Wavy Bob

I love my bob. I convince everyone to get a bob haircut. It’s versatile, flattering and so easy to maintain. What I don’t love is how, after a few months, it starts to weigh my face down and looks disheveled.

I wanted to give myself a refresh by keeping the bob and adding some light layers and soft bangs that don’t look like bangs.

After playing around with my hair and looking at the natural wave pattern, my plan of action was to take out weight in the back, at the bottom of the cut and at the nape of the neck by slide cutting.

This part of the haircut is hidden by the hair and layering it internally would allow the hair to lift, giving it sort of a soft layered effect that just allows the hair to move when air-dried naturally.

These are called internal or ghost layers, depending on which stylist you talk to. Slide cutting inside the hair is my favorite way to create layers without really “creating layers” for wavy and fine hair.

Here is the full tutorial to follow if you would like to do this at home. I suggest that you have someone help you if possible, because it’s always so much easier to have someone else get the angles right and even.

Here are all the products and tools you will be needing to execute this epic cut.
