5 Reasons You Should Get A Pixie Cut in 2023

Pixie cuts are one of those really enviable cuts that make me stare at someone for hours. They are, when done well, chic, elegant and sexy all at the same time.

I’m the hairstylist who will always steer my clients into getting a short haircut if they’re open to it. I’ll push you to get a pixie if I feel they you the features for it, and if you’re willing to put up with the maintenance.

If you’ve been thinking about getting a pixie cut but you’re just not sure if it’s the right fit for you, I’ve rounded up 5 of the most common reasons and feedback I’ve gotten from clients on their pixie cut. I’ve also had one myself and I’ll share my experience too.

  1. You look better with your hair off your face

It’s not that you look bad with your hair down, but every time you pull your hair back off your face, you’re getting compliments left and right.

Everyone says how much more beautiful you look when your hair is up in a ponytail or a bun. Your eyebrows, eye shape, face structure just looks amazing.

Going short will be like a natural extension of your style.

  2. You’re okay with maintenance haircuts

Pixies are not for the faint of heart. They require maintenance cuts every so often. Your visits to the salon could be at a frequency of every two weeks to once a month - it really depends on how fast your hair grows. Be prepared to have to get it trimmed, because once it gets to that awkward length, you’re going to be feeling very disheveled very fast.

    Pre-booking your appointments is key.

  3. You’re okay with using a lot of products

For most pixie lovers, products are the magical ingredient to keeping their hair looking cool. Use a wax like Hairstory’s Wax to play with the shape by pinching some pieces, to slick it back. To add volume and grittiness, apply a couple of pumps of Hairstory’s Powder to volumize it at the roots.

If you have a wave or a curl hiding, use a curling product like the best-selling Undressed, scrunch, and air-dry. If you want to tame flyaways, Hair Balm is my absolute favorite product.

  4. You find long hair boring

Society will tell you that long hair is the best look for a woman. That you’re more attractive with long hair, and you should add extensions to make your hair even longer. But deep down you know you don’t love it.

Long hair is hard to wash and style, and you just don’t understand the obsession with long hair. To you, long hair is simply boring and you can think of a million different ways you can style a short haircut.

I felt this way for the longest time. I was told to never cut my hair because my hair is too thin. Then I got a pixie and the compliments did not stop coming. I didn’t miss long hair. It was such a relief to chop it off!

  5. You just feel it!

This is the best one. You just know you were meant to have short hair. You know you’ve wanted a certain cut for a long time. You’ve been eyeing your Pinterest board and you’ve been pinning all these short haircuts wondering how you’d look with them.

It’s a gut feeling and it follows you around.

If you check off at least one of these criteria on the list, make an appointment with your hairstylist ASAP ☺️
