Here Are the 5 Haircuts We’re NOT Getting in 2023

Okay, y’all, hair has really taken a turn since 2020. The times when we didn’t care what our hair looked like are now gone. We want Matilda Djerf hair, perfectly wispy bangs, snatched ponytails and perfectly coiled curls everyday and we’re not accepting any less.

These haircuts may have been okay pre-2021 but no more. TikTok has shown us our potential and I’m here for it. So in today’s video we’re looking at all of the haircuts that we are no longer getting in 2023. Let’s go!

  1. The Layered Bob

This is a bob that is layered too much. There are layers in the back and in the front and on the sides, usually leaving a gaping hole around the ear. It’s trying too hard because it’s trying to create volume and texture. It just doesn’t - it makes the hair loose its shape and overall structure.
This is a cut I used to get when I was in my first couple of years at university and I will never get it again. Thankfully, there are no photos!

The coolest bob at the moment is a chic, blunt bob with a line straight across.

  2. The Beveled Bob

Infamously named the Karen haircut, the beveled bob is no more. It’s not trendy or cute. I have seen this cut missed so many times We’re sticking with a straight across blunt bob.

  3. The A-Line Bob

Echoing off the beveled bob, we’re not doing the haircut that’s longer in the front and shorter in the back. Just no.

  4. The V-Cut

This cut is big amongst Middle Eastern and Hispanic women. I’m Middle Eastern myself, so I get it. You don’t want to get this cut because within just a couple of weeks, the V in the back is going to turn into a tail. We don’t want that for you. You can still have beautiful, voluminous layers without the V in the back. You can have a straight, blunt perimeter line with lots of layers.

  5. A Boring Pixie

We’re not getting clippered on the side and short on top pixies this year. Those were cool during lockdown, but now we are free and can roam the globe freely. Yes, there is a recession and inflation is happening, and this gives you more reason to give yourself a haircut that has shape and purpose.

What do I mean? Get a bixie, a bowl haircut like our favorite Korean bands, or a scissored Pompadour even. Heck, bleach your hair and have fun.

  6. Bonus: The Shoulder Bob

I threw in this one because it’s on the theme of bobs. I feel like there’s a theme here. The shoulder bob is the one that hits your shoulders at that awkward grow-out phase length. You know the one where your hair starts to flip instead of just being airy and breezy? Yeah, that one.

When asking for a bob at the hair salon, make sure you get it cut either above your shoulders or at your collarbone. Both of these lengths are very flattering on most people.
